Adventure begins at home.
Never in a million years did I guess the adventures life held for me! Sure, I had dreams for my life – graduate college, marry Mr. Right, teach high school history, birth 3-4 babies, and live happily ever after. They weren’t as much dreams as they were plans.
Yep. I’m a planner. I think my plans amuse God, after all, he’s a planner, too.
If you’ve ever read the Bible, you’ve seen that he has been working a plan for thousands of years – from Creation to the children of Israel to the birth, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus. God is still working that plan for the World and for his children, like me.
I like to imagine God smiles indulgently at my plans; kinda like how I smile at my preschoolers stick figure drawings. You know the pictures moms hang on the refrigerator where daddy has a ginormous head, circles for hands, and more or less five lines sticking off the circles for fingers. My plans must look like those stick figures to God.
But, God’s plans? Those are full color professional quality ADVENTURES!
Only God would take a born and raised Arkansas girl and transplant her to Rhode Island. For 20+ years. Oh yeah! Different weather. Different food. Different LANGUAGE! (Rhode Island friends, it is a water fountain, NOT a bubblah!!)
Sometimes God takes my original plan and pumps it full of steroids. Case in point – our six children. Six. I planned for three children, and decided our family was complete with four. Then God surprised us with two more babies.
Occasionally God calls “plot twist” and takes my plan in new a direction. That’s what happened with my degree in history and teaching license. Instead of a classroom full of teenagers, I teach my own children at our kitchen table.
So, adventures? Adventures begin at home!
Life as a homeschooling mom of six is FULL of risks and rewards, successes and failures, excitement and the mundane.
Join me as I share our adventures. Who knows what God will do next?!
